Introduction

Organizations that use Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations often need to exchange data with webshops, warehouses, carriers, trading partners and other business applications. The Agent Integration Platform supports these integrations by providing a reliable and consistent way to connect D365FO with external systems.

The Agent Integration Platform is an Azure-based integration platform for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and related business applications. It acts as a configurable middleware layer between D365FO and external systems, helping organizations manage integration flows in a structured and reusable way. Typical connected systems include EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) networks, webshops, warehouse systems, carrier portals, route planning applications, product information systems and customer engagement applications.

The platform standardizes recurring integration work while preserving the flexibility needed for customer-specific processes. Rather than building each interface as a separate point-to-point customization, the Agent Integration Platform provides reusable concepts for connections, integration tasks, mappings, jobs, staging, monitoring and business connectors. As a result, integrations become easier to configure, operate, reuse and extend across different customers, applications and business scenarios.

Positioning and scope

The Agent Integration Platform uses the standard integration capabilities of Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations as its foundation. It extends these capabilities with a configurable layer for orchestration, transformation, logging and business-specific processing. The platform follows Microsoft-supported integration patterns, including OData (Open Data Protocol), Data Management Framework (DMF) import and export, package APIs, recurring integrations, custom services and business events.

Its functional scope goes beyond technical connectivity. The Agent Integration Platform supports complete end-to-end integration flows, including receiving data, storing original payloads, transforming formats, mapping data, staging business documents, validating content, triggering Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations processing, logging each step and enabling operational follow-up.

The platform is defined by four main characteristics:

• Standard where possible: recurring integration patterns, such as file import, API calls, mapping, staging and monitoring, are handled through reusable platform functionality.
• Flexible where needed: customer-specific mappings, endpoint settings, business connector behaviour and process rules can be configured or extended when required.
• ERP-aligned: integrations follow standard Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations integration patterns and only add custom connector-specific entities when the standard entities do not fully support the scenario.
• Operationally transparent: jobs, tasks, payloads, statuses and errors are logged so support teams can understand, monitor and reprocess integration messages.
