Production BOM options and documents are parts of a production order that are not always needed. E.g. for specific markets, extra information material or language specific manuals must be added.
First a so-called maximum-BOM is created. On a BOM line, a so-called BOM option code can be specified. If a BOM line has a BOM option code, and this BOM option code is part of the current BOM option group the BOM line will be copied to the production BOM line. The current BOM option group can depend on the demand sales order, or entered manually when creating the production order.
Example
Each BOM line can have a BOM option code, e.g. the German manual has a BOM option code DE, the French manual has a BOM option code FR, the Italian manual has a BOM option code IT.
In the BOM option group, it can be specified which BOM option codes apply. E.g. BOM option group Switzerland includes BOM option codes FR, DE and IT. Thus the language specifc manuals for Switzerland are added to the production BOM automatically when the BOM option group is Switzerland.
The BOM option group can be applied manually or automatically based on a filter on the sales line. E.g. if sales line delivery address country is Switzerland, apply BOM option group Switzerland.
Create a sales order line, and create a Production order (manually from the sales order line, or through Master planning) to cover the requirement of this sales line.
The BOM option rules are checked automatically to find the valid BOM option group. Production BOM lines are created unless the BOM option code is not part of the found BOM option group on this material date.
If a production order is created manually, the user can select a BOM option group upon creation.
